S-Tier: The Heart of the Show

• Pomni The protagonist and the audience’s entry point, Pomni arrived in the pilot as a nervous wreck in a jester costume and has carried the show’s emotional weight across seven episodes. Lizzie Freeman’s voice performance gives her real range — the anxiety isn’t played for pure comedy, it’s played as a genuine trauma response to an impossible situation. Her arc across episodes 1–8 is the clearest throughline the show has, and “hjsakldfhl” in particular positions her as potentially the key to changing everything in the circus. Undisputed S-Tier.
• Jax The purple rabbit who describes himself as a “lovable scamp” while being consistently awful to everyone around him. Jax is the best kind of antagonistic main character — his cruelty is funny enough to be entertaining and specific enough to be interesting, and episode 8 retroactively adds weight to every manipulative thing he’s done by giving him a genuinely bleak backstory (the Ribbit arc and what it says about who Jax was before the circus is quietly devastating). Michael Kovach’s voice work is one of the best performances in the whole show. S-Tier.
• Caine The AI ringmaster who runs the circus with terrifying cheerfulness. Caine is the show’s most fascinating character because you never quite know how much he understands about what he’s doing to the humans, and episode 8 — which focuses on him directly — complicates the “oblivious AI” reading significantly. His chattering-teeth design is immediately iconic. S-Tier villain energy even though he’s not quite a villain.
• Kinger The chess king who has been in the circus longer than anyone and might hold the answer to what’s really going on. Kinger is played as comic relief — constant paranoia, pillow forts, scrambled thoughts — but episode 3 gives him genuine emotional depth, and the Queenie subplot running through the series adds a melancholy undercurrent to everything he does. Sean Chiplock plays him beautifully. S-Tier.

A-Tier: Essential Cast Members

• Ragatha The optimistic ragdoll who keeps smiling because the alternative is abstracting. Ragatha’s relentless positivity is slowly revealed to be a coping mechanism of extraordinary sophistication — she knows exactly how bad things are and has decided that smiling is the only way she survives it. Episode 5 digs into this and is one of the series’ best character studies. Amanda Hufford’s performance is warm and quietly heartbreaking. A-Tier, borderline S.
• Gangle A character made of ribbons wearing a fragile happy mask over an indestructible sad one. The symbolism is so on-the-nose it loops back around to being genuinely affecting. Episode 4’s Gangle focus is the most emotionally direct episode of the show. Her design is perhaps the most visually expressive in the entire cast — you always know exactly what she’s feeling even when she can’t say it.
• Zooble The mix-and-match toy who refuses to deal with Caine’s nonsense and makes no effort to hide it. Zooble is the show’s most overtly grumpy presence and gets some of the best deadpan lines in the writing. Ashley Nichols’ nonbinary voice casting is exactly right for the character. Episode 3 pairs them with Kinger in a dynamic that works beautifully.
• Gummigoo Appeared in just two episodes and generated enough fan response to rival the main cast. Gummigoo is an NPC who becomes briefly aware of his own nature as a game character, and the show uses him to ask questions about consciousness and existence that it then doesn’t fully answer — which is the right call. The Candy Carrier Chaos arc gives Pomni her most significant relationship with a character outside the main group. Fan favourite for good reason.
• Bubble Caine’s AI companion and hype assistant. “That’s right, Caine!” is one of the most quoted lines in the show’s early run. Bubble exists mostly as a reactor to Caine’s chaos but gets a handful of moments that hint at something more complicated running underneath the cheerful surface. Seven episodes of reliable comic presence.

B-Tier: Strong Supporting Presence

• Kaufmo — The abstracted clown who kicks off the pilot’s horror element. His cardboard cutout is the first sign something is deeply wrong with the circus. His brief appearances as an abstracted form are genuinely unsettling.
• Queenie — Kinger’s wife, absent from the circus for reasons not yet fully explained. Present mostly in implication and Kinger’s emotional state, but her absence drives one of the show’s most affecting ongoing threads.
• The Creature / Abel — Episode 7 character whose focus episode was “Beach Episode” (December 2025). The Beach Episode is one of the show’s most tonally ambitious outings, and Abel contributes significantly to what makes it work.
• Gloink Queen — Two-episode presence whose design is among the most visually inventive of the show’s non-human NPCs. Her interactions with the main cast in the pilot and its aftermath are a highlight.
• Gummigoo’s friends (Zon and others) — The NPC crew from the Candy Carrier Chaos adventure. Brief but the sequence where they process Gummigoo’s awakening is quietly moving.
• The Disappearing Guy — Two episodes in 2025, a minor character whose specific mechanic (he disappears) is used cleverly in the episodes he appears in.

C-Tier: Memorable But Limited

• Ribbit — Jax’s cartoon rabbit counterpart from his past, whose significance is only fully understood in episode 8. Retroactively important but appears too briefly to rank higher on their own presence.
• Rattie, Spike, Bizco — The abstracted characters whose designs are among the show’s most disturbing moments. Present mostly as horror setpieces rather than characters, but effective ones.
• Wormo, Scratch — NPCs from specific adventure settings who fill out the world without particularly defining it.
• Crappy Looking Fish — Listed in every character breakdown. Appears briefly. Has a passionate fan following completely disproportionate to screen time. The internet works in mysterious ways.

D-Tier: Background Texture

• The show’s minor background characters, unnamed mannequins, environment entities, and one-scene NPCs from the various adventure settings fill out this tier. They do their jobs — establishing the circus as a populated world rather than a set — but they’re not characters in any meaningful sense.
